Crawford, Ramblers Climb Leaderboard On Final Day Of Twin Oaks Intercollegiate

Junior fires three-under-par 68 to lead Loyola attack

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (March 22, 2022) – Junior Timmy Crawford turned in a sparkling effort to highlight an impressive final-round performance for the Loyola University Chicago men's golf team this morning at the Twin Oaks Intercollegiate in Springfield, Mo.

Loyola rebounded from an uncharacteristic opening-round showing on Monday by finishing the event with a final-round 287, a mark tied for the third lowest team total of the day, that saw it ascend into a tie for 11th place with a 591 (304-287).  Oral Roberts (273-280=553) coasted to the team crown, while the Golden Eagles' Dustin Hasley (69-66=135) edged Yianni Kostouros (67-70=137) of Valparaiso for individual medalist honors.

"Obviously a disappointing week," Loyola head men's golf coach Erik Hoops said.  "We kind of shot ourselves in the foot during the first round, then unfortunately only had one round to make up for it.  It felt good to come back up the leaderboard today and I have no doubt that if we would have gotten a third round in, we could have moved up even more."

Crawford posted a three-under-par 68 that ranked as the third lowest individual score of the final round at the Twin Oaks Country Club (par 71; 6,760 yards).  The Arlington Heights, Ill. native put together an error-free scorecard that featured three birdies and 15 pars, earning a share of 47th place with a 148 (80-68) in the process.  Fellow junior Zach Walsh also finished with an impressive final round, racking up a team-best five birdies en route to an even-par 71 that saw him finish a stroke in front of Crawford at 147 (76-71), tied for 39th.

Redshirt senior Tyler Anderson and graduate student Devin Johnson each handed over three-over-par 74s.  Anderson finished as the top Rambler on the individual leaderboard, tying for 33rd with a four-over-par 146 (72-74), while Johnson, who completed the front nine at one-under-par, shared 55th at 150 (76-74).  Graduate student Ryan Magee placed 87th with a 161 (81-80) following a final-round 80.

"We have to take the positives from this week and keep working on fixing some stuff up," Hoops concluded.  "Really looking forward to our last couple events of the spring."

Loyola plays in its penultimate regular season event in two weeks, April 4-5, when it visits University Place, Wash. for the Redhawk Invitational.
