SOUTH BEND, Ind. (March 29, 2022) – The Loyola University Chicago softball team continued with their non-conference slate as they traveled to South Bend to take on the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame, who were ranked 25th in today's NFCA Coaches' Poll. After facing this tough competitor, the Ramblers found themselves with a five-inning loss with a score of 10-0 in favor of the Fighting Irish.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Notre Dame struck early in this game, grabbing four runs each in the first two innings for a total of eight. From there, They continued with their scoring efforts as they added two more runs in the fourth to put the score at 10-0.
In the top of the fifth,
Sophia Remsik made her way on base after a Notre Dame error. She capitalized on the opportunity by stealing second base along the way. Even with this last-minute push, it wasn't enough to keep the game from ending in the fifth.
LOOKING AT THE NUMBERS
- Although there were no hits in this game, multiple Ramblers made it on base from walks or errors by Notre Dame. The Fighting Irish made two errors in this game compared to Loyola's one.
- Amelia Thomas was the biggest defensive threat again for the Ramblers. She ended the game with a team-high four putouts while Hannah Nalley, Teagan Sopczak and Abbey Jacobsen each had two of their own. Nova Sinskul helped out on the most plays as she ended with two assists.
- Sydney Ruggles started the game on the mound before Bri Clifton came in during the second inning. Clifton ended up getting the team's sole strikeout against Notre Dame's highly-ranked offense.
UP NEXT
The Ramblers will be back at Loyola Softball Park for the first time since the 2021 spring season as they host the University of Evansville Purple Aves for a three-game Missouri Valley Conference series. Saturday, April 2, will feature a double header between these two teams while a single game will be played on Sunday. First pitch will be at 12 p.m. on both of those days.
