Ramblers Wrap Up Weekend Series With Win Over Lions

Loyola Men's Volleyball defeated Emmanuel College 3-0.

CHICAGO (March 5, 2022) – The Loyola University Chicago men's volleyball team took a break from MIVA play as they hosted the Lions of Emmanuel College. Following a three-set match, the Ramblers ended up with the win (25-20, 25-21, 32-30).
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
With the Ramblers' reserve players on the court, the two teams set out in this best-of-five match. The two teams battled with one another from the start, going point for point until Loyola made their push. They got ahead of the Lions and were able to keep the lead, winning the first set 25-21 over the Lions. 
 
The second set told a similar story. Although Emmanuel kept themselves in the game early, but a late run from the Ramblers gave the Maroon and Gold the much-needed push to win the set 25-20 and take the 2-0 lead in this match. 
 
Once the teams came back on the court from the break, they were ready for another close set. This time, the entire set was a close fight between these two teams as it even went into extra points. Even with the extra time, the Ramblers were able to make a comeback, defeating the Lions 32-30 to win the final set. 
 
LOOKING AT THE NUMBERS
  • Josh Gottleib had the most successful night on offense for the Ramblers. He ended the night with the most kills on the court with 17 kills, hitting .429 on the night. Also helping on offense was Cole Schlothauer. He contributed 15 kills with only three errors to go along with two blocks and four digs. 
  • Dan Mangun had an outstanding night out for the first match start of his career. The redshirt freshman setter registered his first double-double with 40 assists and 14 digs. He was also a big influence when it came to the front row defense, racking up three blocks. 
  • The middle blockers for the came up big for the Maroon and Gold tonight. Both Jimmy Meinhart and Nicodemus Meyer had six blocks each.   
UP NEXT
The Ramblers will have most of the week off before they face Daemen College in a non-conference match. The game is scheduled for Sunday, March 13, at 3 p.m. The game will be streamed on ESPN+ and live stats will also be available.
