QUINCY, Ill. (April 2, 2022) – During their final road game of the regular season, the Loyola University Chicago men's volleyball team faced off against Quincy University on their home court. After three sets of play, the Ramblers were the ones who came out on top, sweeping the Hawks (25-19, 25-23, 25-14).
HOW IT HAPPENED
The first set started in favor of the Ramblers. They came out scoring the first points of the game, grabbing the lead early. This tough Quincy team made sure to throw their own punches at the Ramblers as they fought to stay in this game. However, it wasn't enough as Loyola took the first set 25-19.
From there, the Hawks came out just as strong as they ended the first set. They battled for each and every point, almost taking it to extra points. But the Maroon and Gold were having none of it. Loyola squeezed their way past Quincy in the second set with a score of 25-23.
Once the final set came around, the Ramblers dominated the Hawks. They battled for each and every point, even when they had a cushion. This resulted in the third set being 25-14 in favor of Loyola.
LOOKING AT THE NUMBERS
- Outside hitters Cole Schlothauer and Henry Payne were the biggest keys on offense today. Schlothauer led the team with the most kills as he notched 14 with a .440 hitting percentage while Payne hit .476 with 12 kills.
- These two were also huge forces on defense. Payne had the most digs with seven while Schlothauer added three blocks, which was also the highest number on the team.
- Josh Gottlieb took advantage of his start today as he hit an impressive .533 with nine kills and 15 swings, making only one error. He also ended with a team-high three aces.
- Garrett Zolg controlled the Ramblers' offensive efforts, concluding the match with 31 assists.
- Matt Oakley helped out in the back row as he added on four digs of his own.

The Ramblers will conclude the season with a home series as they host No. 7 Ball State on Thursday, April 7, and Ohio State on Saturday, April 9.
