Ramblers Grab Big 8-5 Win Over Bulldogs

Loyola Softball defeated Drake University 8-5 in Game 1 of this series.

CHICAGO (April 30, 2022) – After a rainy start to this final home series at Hoyne, the Loyola University Chicago softball team was back in action as they played the Drake University Bulldogs. Although these two teams only got one full game in today, the Ramblers came out with a big win, defeating the Bulldogs 8-5 in the first game.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Loyola took an early lead off the hot bat of Sydney Barnett. The sophomore had her sixth-straight game with a hit, but on her very first at-bat, she hit a home run that brought two of her teammates home to make the score 3-0.

From there, the Bulldogs attempted a comeback in the third inning as they scored two runs of their own, but it wasn't nearly enough. The Ramblers kept the pressure on their opponent, scoring five more runs before the end of this game to win 8-5 over Drake. This is a key win in Valley play as the Maroon and Gold are now tied for eighth in the standings while Drake dropped to fourth.
