Loyola Concludes Its Season At Missouri Valley Conference Championships

Loyola Softball lost 4-1 to Bradley to end the 2022 season

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (May 12, 2022) – Playing in the first game of the day yet again, the Loyola University Chicago softball team hit the field to continue with the Missouri Valley Conference Championships as the No. 8 Ramblers took on the No. 5 Bradley University Braves. In this game, the winner would move on to a game later in the evening against the fourth-seeded Drake. 
 
Even with hot bats and registering six hits in the game, the Ramblers were not able to make it out of this round with the win, losing 4-1 to Bradley. 
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
From the start of the first inning, the Braves came out hot. The Ramblers went through their first four batters quickly, which resulted in Bradley coming up to bat. They grabbed a run right at the start, which gave the Braves the advantage to start this game.
 
It wasn't for a lack of trying. Loyola secured six hits throughout the game and left eight runners on base throughout the game. However, the Braves' defense was on point along with its offense give them the advantage and move on to play Drake later in the day. 
 
LOOKING AT THE NUMBERS
  • Madison Ebeling had the strongest game on offense. She grabbed one hit and a run that she scored by stealing home plate late in the fifth inning. She was also walked twice. 
  • Nova Sinskul was also successful at the plate. The third baseman finished the game with two hits on three at-bats. 
  • Amelia Thomas stole second base late in the fifth to help get Ebeling home. She also ended up with one hit in today's game.
  • Peyton Pepkowski pitched all six innings the Ramblers were on defense. She registered six strikeouts during that time.
  • Thomas and Tori Boysen were two of the biggest assets on defense today. The first baseman ended the game with five putouts while the catcher added on four. Ebeling also contributed to the team's efforts with three assists.  
IN CONCLUSION
The Ramblers concluded the 2022 season with this game, holding an overall record of 17-30 and a Missouri Valley Conference record of 10-17. Loyola had three members of its team receive Missouri Valley Conference accolades during its final season before moving to the Atlantic 10 Conference.
