CHICAGO (July 6, 2022) – Former Loyola University Chicago guard
Lucas Williamson (Chicago, Ill./Whitney Young) begins his quest for a spot on a NBA roster this weekend when he commences NBA Summer League play with the Los Angeles Clippers in Las Vegas. The 6-foot-4 guard signed an Exhibit 10 contract with the Clippers immediately following the NBA Draft on June 23.
Â
One of only 23 players in Loyola men's basketball history to total over 1,000 points and 500 rebounds, Williamson was a two-time Missouri Valley Conference Defensive Player of the Year selection during his collegiate career. He assembled his best season as a Rambler in 2021-22, providing 13.7 points, 5.0 rebounds, 3.1 assists and 1.3 steals per game to help Loyola to a 25-8 overall record and a second straight NCAA Tournament berth.
Â
Williamson picked up First Team All-MVC accolades in 2021-22 after earning second-team honors in 2020-21, when he helped the Ramblers to a Sweet 16 appearance. During the 2021 NCAA Tournament, he shut down All-America guard and current Chicago Bull Ayo Dosunmu, limiting him to nine points, while scoring 14 points himself, in a second-round upset of top-seeded Illinois.
Â
As a freshman in 2017-18, Williamson was a key reserve on a Loyola squad that captivated the nation by making a run to the NCAA Final Four.Â
Â
A winner in every sense of the word, Williamson helped Whitney Young High School to a pair of state championships during his prep career, then played a prominent role in three MVC regular-season titles and four postseason berths, including three NCAA tournament appearances, during his collegiate career. Williamson wrapped up his eligibility as Loyola's all-time winningest player with 124 victories.
Â
Williamson and the Clippers open NBA Summer League action on July 9 when they take on the Memphis Grizzlies at Cox Pavilion at 8:30 p.m. CT. That game will air on NBA TV. The complete Los Angeles Clippers NBA Summer League schedule follows.
