Bre Hampton-Bey (Toledo, Ohio/Notre Dame Academy/UMass) has signed a professional contract with the Sheffield Hatters of the Women's British Basketball League (WBBL). Hampton-Bey is the fourth Rambler since 2010 to sign a contract to compete at the professional level.
After playing the first three years of her career at Massachusetts, Hampton-Bey started in 38 of her 49 appearances with the Maroon & Gold, debuting with the Ramblers during the 2020-21 season. The Toledo, Ohio native averaged 7.1 points, 3.8 rebounds, 1.8 assists, and 1.0 rebounds in her first campaign in Rogers Park, scoring in double figures seven times en route to earning a spot on the Missouri Valley Conference All-Newcomer Team. She pumped in a season-best 23 points in a 53-46 triumph over Southern Illinois on January 30, 2021.
Hampton-Bey was a mainstay in the lineup this past season, starting in all 28 games as Loyola posted its top win total in over 30 years. The 5-foot-6 guard cracked the 10-point mark 11 times, averaging 8.1 points, and racked up a team-high 42 steals (1.5 spg). Hampton-Bey etched her name in Rambler history in a 58-48 win against Eastern Illinois on December 8, 2021, putting up 10 points in addition to 12 rebounds to become the 27
th player in program history to surpass the 1,000-point mark for her career.
In existence since 1961, the Sheffield Hatters are founding members of the WBBL, which began competition in 2014. The Hatters open the 2022-23 season on September 24 against the Durham Palatinates.
