DAVIDSON, N.C. – The Ramblers battled top seeded Dayton in the 2023 Atlantic 10 Volleyball Championship Sunday morning. Loyola Chicago was able to force four sets, but the Flyers rallied late in the fourth to win the title.

Karlie McNabb recorded double-doubles for the Ramblers.
Loyola finishes with a 19-12 overall record.
"I'm proud of the team for the fight they showed this season and this match," said head coach
Amanda Berkley. "This is a very resilient group, and they showed that by coming to work everyday to get better. I'm proud of these seniors for what they have been able to accomplish in their 4-5 years at Loyola."
How It Happened
The first set of Sunday's action was all Dayton as Loyola struggled to find a rhythm. The Flyers went on an 8-2 run to open the match with five points coming off kills.
Taylor Venuto and
Emily Banitt went for back-to-back kills cutting the lead midway through, 15-11. Dayton responded with five straight points to cruise to a 25-13 win.
The Ramblers flipped the script in the second set scoring their first five points on three kills and an ace. Loyola was then able to string together a 5-1 run capped by three straight kills from McNabb and Venuto. Dayton got back within three of Loyola on kills from Moore, Russell, and Almaodovar, but Loyola sealed the 25-16 win with eight of its final 10 points off kills.
Sunday's third set saw three early lead changes before Dayton used a pair of attack errors, an ace, and Almodovar kill to jump out with a 15-11 edge. Loyola tried to make a late rally sparked by a
Bree Borum kill to get within three, 21-19. The Flyers allowed just one more Loyola point before the set was on the line 24-20. Venuto would get a late kill, but Dayton escaped, 25-22.
Both the Ramblers and Flyers traded points to start the fourth set, and Loyola was able to take an 8-7 lead following a 4-0 run. Dayton tied the match eight times before McNabb and Banitt sandwiched a 3-0 run with kills. The Ramblers got to set point with an attack error from Almodovar, but the Flyers rallied with the final five points to win the title, 26-24.
Inside the Box Score
- Borum's double-double was her 19th of the season and third straight. She finished with 31 assists and 21 digs. She added eight kills.
- McNabb's was her ninth of the year. She tallied 10 kills and 12 digs.
- Venuto recorded eight kills and a match-high seven blocks.
