Loyola Unveils Athletics Hall of Fame Class of 2024

Sam Penzenstadler, Brooke Andresen, and Michael Ferguson to be inducted on March 9

CHICAGO - Sam Penzenstadler (track/cross country), Brooke Andresen (softball), and Michael Ferguson (men's soccer) will be inducted into the Loyola Athletics Hall of Fame on March 9, 2024, it was announced today. The trio will be recognized at halftime of the Ramblers' men's basketball match-up with La Salle that afternoon.
 
Penzenstadler was another great in the storied history of outstanding distance runners at Loyola, winning eight individual conference titles from 2011 to 2015. The Oshkosh, Wisconsin native burst onto the scene winning Horizon League Newcomer of the Year his freshman year before winning the cross country title his sophomore campaign. Penzenstadler clocked the fastest mile time in Missouri Valley Conference history and second-fastest in Loyola history at 3:58.05.
 
The 2014 First Team All-American honoree also won consecutive 1500m Drake Relay titles and was a key part of relay teams that established new school records in the indoor distance medley relay and the outdoor 4x800 relay.
 
One of the most accomplished hitters in Loyola softball history, Andresen was a four-time All-Horizon League selection and finished her career with a .338 average, 215 hits, 116 runs, 33 doubles, 17 home runs, 76 RBI, and 25 stolen bases. Andresen graduated as Loyola's all-time leader in hits and runs scored and had a school-record 25-game hitting streak as a freshman in 2010.
 
The Woodridge, Illinois native, who never hit below .314 in her career, helped Loyola to 102 wins and a pair of Horizon League regular season titles in her four years in the Maroon and Gold.
 
Ferguson was a key member of a class that helped transform Loyola men's soccer, helping the Ramblers to a pair of NCAA tournament berths, including their first ever trip in 2006. Ferguson accumulated 25 goals, including 11 game-winners, and seven assists in his career. The Overland Park, Kansas native earned Horizon League Player of the Year and Third Team All-America accolades in 2007 before becoming the first Rambler ever to be chosen to the MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List in 2008, an award given to the top soccer player in the country.
 
In addition to the three members being inducted into the Hall of Fame, Doctor Pietro Tonino will receive the William A. Finnegan, S.J. Memorial Award, which is awarded in recognition of outstanding humanitarianism and service to youth through athletics. Tonino served for 26 years as Loyola's team physician and was a longtime advocate and supporter of the health and wellness for Rambler student-athletes.
