PRs fall as Ramblers Race at GVSU Big Meet

Grace Kuhn, Blake Buysse and Emma Murray highlighted the action Friday

ALLENDALE, Mich. (February 10, 2023) – The Loyola track & field team was back in action Friday afternoon, as a contingent of Ramblers raced at the GVSU Big Meet. Standout performances by Grace Kuhn, Blake Buysse and Emma Murray highlighted the action Friday to open the weekend of racing for Loyola.
 
Grace Kuhn led wire-to-wire to win her heat of the women's 3000m run. Kuhn went out solo from the opening gun and cruised to a victory, setting a new personal best by 26 seconds with a time of 9:43.79. With the time, Kuhn moves into 8th place on the Loyola all-time performance list. Roisin Treacy, also in competition in the event, set a seven-second PR with a time of 10:16.75.
 
In the men's 5000m, Blake Buysse took third in his heat with a time of 14:06.45, a new personal best and the fifth-fastest time in program history. Sean O'Connell was also in action in the event, posting a time of 14:23.04 to move into eighth position on the Loyola performance list.
 
Emma Murray shaved nine seconds off her personal best time in the women's mile, crossing the line in 5:09.48. Fran Hendrickson, who set a PR in the event last time out, shaved even more time off her personal best with a mark of 5:00.25.
 
PRs fell in the women's 400 and 600m runs as well, with Erin Connors (58.26 – 400m) and Madi McLain (1:41.87 – 600m) each setting new personal bests in their respective events.
 
Cameron Arkesteyn shaved nearly a second off his PR in the men's 800m run, posting a new personal best time with a final time of 1:53.54. Kenny Wallace also set a new PR in the mile with a time of 4:09.90 to take 10th overall.
 
Jake Phillips, in his rookie season with the Ramblers, set a new PR for the third meet in a row with men's 3000 with a time of 8:28.14.
 
Loyola will round out a split squad weekend Saturday afternoon at the Windy City Invitational in Chicago, hosted by Wisconsin.
