BOCA RATON, Fla. (Feb. 12, 2023) – The Loyola softball team (2-3) closed out the Paradise Classic with a 6-3 victory over Stony Brook, with the Ramblers finishing the season-opening weekend with two wins over the final three games.
Madison Ebeling (2 for 4) and
Hannah Nalley (2 for 3) led the Ramblers at the plate with multi-hit efforts, while
Haley Wallace,
Jocelyn Currie, and
Sierra Sass each recorded a base knock. Wallace finished with two RBIs, with one each produced by Ebeling and
Abbie Gregus.
Peyton Pepkowski made the start inside the circle, tossing three frames with three strikeouts and one unearned run allowed on three hits.
Bailey Johnson came on in relief and went the final four frames to close out the game.
After Loyola grabbed the lead with a run in the first inning off a pair of Stony Brook errors, the Ramblers followed with five more runs on four hits in the second frame for a 6-0 advantage. Currie led off with a single and would score on another Seawolves' error to make the score 2-0.
With one out, Ebeling drove an RBI double to left field, the lone extra-base hit for Loyola which plated
Nova Sinskul. Then,
Abbie Gregus brought in Ebeling after putting the ball in play on a fielder's choice.
Two batters later, Wallace delivered a two-run single up the middle to bring
Riley Owens and Nalley across for Loyola's final two runs.
Stony Brook got on the board with a sacrifice fly in the third inning, and tacked on two more in a late seventh-inning rally before the Ramblers escaped a bases-loaded jam to seal the win. Ashley Jacobson recorded half of the Seawolves' six hits on the day as she went 3 for 3 with three singles.
