Loyola Falls to Omaha in Texas Classic Finale, 4-1

Ramblers travel to Murray State next weekend

AUSTIN, Texas (February 19, 2023) – Loyola (3-7) dropped its final game at the Texas Classic with Sunday's 4-1 setback against Nebraska Omaha (7-3) at McCombs Field.

Haley Wallace, who extended her hitting streak to seven games, scored the lone run for Loyola after leading off the sixth inning with a double, and eventually crossing the plate on Sydney Barnett's fly ball to right field to make the score 4-1.

Omaha jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning on a bases-clearing double from left fielder Ava Rongisch. The timely hit came with two outs and followed back-to-back walks to load the bases.

Loyola threated with a pair of runners reaching safely in both the first and second innings but had nothing to show for it. Both teams left seven runners on base in the contest.

Barnett singled to lead off the second frame, followed by a walk issued to Tori Boysen, but an inning-ending double play ended the Rambler threat against Omaha starter Sydney Niusmer. Nuesmer went four innings and earned her fourth win.

Another leadoff single in the fourth from Hannah Nalley also came up empty.

The Mavericks tacked on their final run in the home half of the fourth with another RBI double. Omaha would end up outhitting Loyola by a 7-5 margin.

Peyton Pepkowski and Andie Broniewicz combined for three strikeouts in the circle.
