Ramblers Set for A10 Indoor Championships

Loyola heads to Kingston, Rhode Island Saturday and Sunday for the conference championships

CHICAGO (February 24, 2023) – The Loyola track & field team turns its attention to postseason racing this weekend as the Ramblers head to Kingston, Rhode Island for the 2023 Atlantic 10 Indoor Track & Field Championships. Rhode Island will serve as the championship host, with action slated to take place this Saturday and Sunday at Mackal Fieldhouse.
 
Action for the Ramblers will begin at 2 p.m. (ET) on Saturday as Jayla Johnson competes in the preliminaries of the women's 60m hurdles. Racing will continue throughout the day on Saturday, concluding with finals of the men's and women's DMR at approximately 6:45 p.m. (ET).
 
Championship Sunday for Loyola will begin at 11:15 a.m. (ET) with the men's mile. Four Ramblers, Jason Clayton, Woody Jerome, Gabe Smit and Kenny Wallace, will toe the line in the mile to kick off the action before Aiden Grasse, Ruth Heery, Grace Maurer and Roisin Treacy step up to the line in the women's mile.
 
Racing will continue throughout the day, concluding with the running of the 4x400 relays, starting at approximately 2:55 p.m. (ET).
 
Loyola will enter its first A10 Indoor Championships with some of the fastest times in the conference across a number of events. Ryan Martins and Chris Devaney have the first and second-fastest times in the A10 in the men's 3000m this year while Grace Kuhn and Nora Wollen have the fifth and seventh-best times, respectively, on the women's side of the 3000m.
 
Martins also enters the championships with the top time in the conference in the men's 5000m while Devaney (fourth) and Blake Buysse (seventh) also rank in the top-10 this year. Three Ramblers are also in the top-10 of the women's 5000m, with Nora Wollen (fifth), Grace Jostock (seventh) and Ali Gillooly (ninth) all in prime position to score points for Loyola.
 
Miguel Abaitua has the fastest time in the men's 1000m this year while Gabe Smit has the seventh-fastest 1000m time and sixth-best performance in the mile. Johnson is eighth-best in the women's 60m hurdles.
