Â
How it Happened
Loyola battled back from a 19-point deficit midway through the second quarter thanks to a furious 13-0 Rambler run that trimmed the Saint Louis lead to six right before halftime. The Billikens got a jumper to fall in the final minute of the opening half and took a 31-23 advantage into the locker room.
Â
It was a tale of two quarters to start the game, with Loyola going without a made field goal (0-14) and trailing 15-1 in the first period, before bouncing back to shoot 57% (8-14) in the second period. The Ramblers went 4 for 7 from three-point range in the second quarter and finished the frame making five of their final six shot attempts to climb back within single digits.
Â
A three from
Kira Chivers at the 3:58 mark sparked the rally, followed by back-to-back treys from Brown to force a SLU timeout at 2:32 before halftime. Chandler and Brown added layups after the stoppage to keep the rally going.
Â
However, the momentum would run dry after SLU responded with a 9-2 run to open the third quarter, with the Billikens taking a 40-25 lead off a second-chance three.
Â
Tanin's layup with under three minutes left in the third made it a 12-point game at 49-37, but that would end up as close as the Ramblers would get. SLU closed the third quarter on a 10-0 run after shooting 65% in the period, as the lead swelled to as much as 24 points.
Â
Peyton Kennedy led three Billikens in double figures with 20 points. Brooke Flowers added a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds.
