How it Happened
The scoring started when
Anna Brown's putback layup gave the Ramblers the first lead of the day.
Loyola raced out to a quick 7-2 lead following a mid-range jumper from Ramage and a three by Galanopoulos, which forced an early Fordham timeout less than three minutes into the contest. However, the host Rams responded with a 10-0 run, including eight points from Kaitlyn Downey, to claim the lead. Brown's free throws cut the deficit to five near the end of the opening quarter, but Fordham eventually led 20-11 after 10 minutes. After starting 3 of 4 from the floor, Loyola closed out the opening period with 1-for-11 shooting.
Long-range shooting in the second quarter got the Ramblers back within striking distance as back-to-back threes from
Kira Chivers and Galanopoulos trimmed the deficit to six at 25-19. But Fordham answered again, this time with a 7-0 run as the Rams led 33-20 at the 4:55 media timeout. Brown drained a trey out of the stoppage, but the Rams also knocked one down at the other end on the next possession to maintain control.
Fordham's Anna DeWolfe would spark a 15-3 run with three treys, extending the Fordham lead to as much as 18 points in the second quarter, before the Ramblers faced a 50-33 halftime deficit. Loyola knocked down three treys and shot nearly 50% in the second quarter, but the Rams shot 75% overall in the second quarter, including 5 of 6 (83%) from three-point range.
Both teams started slow offensively after the break, and Loyola couldn't take advantage by starting just 1 for 8 from the field until a driving layup by Galanopoulos at the 2:43 mark in the third quarter. Loyola outscored the Rams by five in the fourth quarter, including three treys and going 12 for 14 at the charity stripe, but couldn't climb back below a 14-point deficit the rest of the way. Ramage and Tanin each collected eight points in the final period.
DeWolfe led Fordham with a game-high 20 points while Asiah Dingle added 16 points. Downey logged a double-double effort with 13 points and 10 rebounds for the Rams.
