Ramblers Take Doubleheader to Win Series vs. St. Bonaventure

ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. (April 1, 2023) - After dropping the series opener Loyola (12-17, 6-3) rallied to win the series with a doubleheader sweep at St. Bonaventure Saturday morning. The Ramblers erupted for 10 hits in the first game for a 10-1 win and rallied from down one with three unanswered runs in game two for a 3-1 win.

Game One // Loyola 10, St. Bonaventure 1
The Ramblers scored eight straight runs to open game one's action and sealed their win in the very first tinning. Haley Wallace and Hannah Nalley recorded doubles in the first to get Loyola started. Wallace plated two, including the game winning run. Nalley then hit Wallace home for a quick 3-0 edge. Nova Sinskul and Tori Boysen both tallied infield singles before the inning ended. Boysen's forced an error and two more Ramblers scored for a 5-0 lead after the first inning.

The action wasn't over with the Ramblers adding another three runs to the board in the second. Sophia Remsik led off with a double down the left field line followed by a single to left from Madison Ebeling. Remsik scored a batter later on a fielding error, while Wallace got her third RBI of the game with a sac fly to score Ebeling. One final Rambler run of the second crossed home. Sydney Barnett singled Amelia Thomas home, and Loyola led, 8-0.

The Bonnies didn't give up and finally struck in the fourth inning. Haberl and Suhr recorded back-t-back hits for SBU. Suhr's double sent Haberl home for their only run of the game.

Two more hits and a walk in the seventh led to two more runs for Loyola. Nalley tallied both the RBI on a single to center, and the Ramblers went on to win by nine.

Game Two // Loyola 3, St. Bonaventure 1
St. Bonaventure made the first move in game two of Saturday's doubleheader. Haberl got ahold of the first pitch and sent it over the left field fence for a solo home run. The Bonnies gained two more base runners with singles from Suhr and Stewart, but Loyola held them to just the one run in the second.

The Ramblers' rally came in the fourth inning. The bases were loaded with two outs when Sinskul singled up the middle. A muffed throw by the short stop opened the foor for Nalley, Barnett, and Wallace scoring on the play. Loyola swung momentum in its favor taking a 3-1 edge.

St. Bonaventure tallied four more hits including two in the seventh. They had the winning run up to back, but Peyton Pepkowski dealt her three strikes to send her down swinging, and Loyola won, 3-1.
