No. 10 Ramblers Stumble at No. 11 Ball State

Loyola dropped a 3-0 road decision Thursday night

MUNCIE, Ind. (April 6, 2023) – The 10th-ranked Loyola men's volleyball team dropped a 3-0 decision to the 11th-ranked Ball State Cardinals Thursday evening to kick off the final road trip of the regular season.

Parker Van Buren had a team-high 14 kills while Cole Schlothauer added 11 kills and a team-best seven digs for the Ramblers. Dan Mangun dished out 35 assists to help pace the offensive effort.

How It Happened
It was all Ball State from the opening serve Thursday evening. A kill from Van Buren evened the opening set at 5-all, the closest the Ramblers got to the Cardinals in the opening set. Ball State slowly built and maintained its lead for the remainder of the set, taking a 25-21 victory to jump ahead by a 1-0 margin in the match.

The Cardinals played from in front for almost the entire second set. A Ball State kill opened the set before Jack Yentz connected from the outside to make it 1-all. Five unanswered by the hosts made its 6-1 and the Ramblers never clawed back, dropping a 25-18 decision to trail 2-0 heading into the intermission.

Van Buren tallied a kill early in the third set to make it 2-1 Loyola, the only time Thursday evening that Loyola was in front of Ball State. The Cardinals slowly took command, building a 22-15 lead, before the Ramblers began to storm back. Van Buren kick-started a 9-2 run as Loyola pulled even at 24-all following a Van Buren ace. The Cardinals would take the final two points, however, to seal the three-set decision.
