AMHERST, Mass. ( May 7, 2023) – Loyola's first A-10 outdoor championships are in the books following Sunday's action packed day at UMass.
Miguel Abaitua had a PR fall in the men's 800 and landed fifth all-time, while he and
Chris Devaney both took second in their respective events.
The Rambler men finished eighth out of 13 teams, while the women finished 11
th out of 15.
Abaitua finished second overall in the 800 with a time of 1:49.71. It marked a personal record and moved him up the all-time list to fifth in program history.
Devaney clocked a time of 14:17.09 in the men's 5k, which was also good enough for second place.
Joining Devaney in the 5k was
Ryan Martins who finished with a time of 14:34.65 for fifth place.
Blake Buysse ran 14:52.68 in his second distance event of the weekend, and
Woody Jerome rounded out the men's 5k with a time of 14:58.22.
For the Rambler women,
Grace Jostock led the team in the women's 5k posting a time of 17:30.01.
Sophia Manners trailed behind clocking 18:06.01.
Jason Clayton led three Ramblers in the men's 1,500 finishing fourth with a time of 3:46.32.
Gabe Smit was on his heels at 3:47.82, while
Jake Phillips logged the final time of 3:57.19.
Jayla Johnson and
Erin Connors both saw action in the hurdle events for Loyola. In the 100, Johnson placed sixth with a time of 14.22. In the 400, Connors clocked in at 1:03.59.
Championship action closed with the 4x800 relay for both Loyola women and men.
Kelly Andrews,
Mia Dubac,
Madi McLain, and
Emma Murray posted a time of 9:29.04 for the Ramblers, while Abaitua,
Cameron Arkesteyn, Clayton, and
Jack Slaughter paced the men at 7:41.14.
Up next on Loyola's schedule is the NCAA Regionals slated for May 24 in Sacramento.
