CHICAGO – The Loyola Chicago women's volleyball team dropped a 3-0 decision to #23 Dayton Saturday afternoon inside Gentile Arena.
Â
Karlie McNabb had a team-high eight digs to pace the offense and was also Loyola's top defender with a team-high 13 digs.
Addie Barnes had seven kills and
Anna Feldkamp chipped in six while
Bree Borum dished out 22 assists.
Â
Quoting Coach Berkley:
"Another disappointing result. I think we have to learn from these losses and at some point, I hope that we do. We need everyone to play better volleyball but hats off to Dayton. They are a very physical team and don't make as many mistakes and found a way to put the ball down today."
Â
Dayton used a 5-0 run in the opening set to create some separation and build a 12-5 lead, and would use the advantage to take a 1-0 lead in the match with a 25-14 victory.
Â
Loyola was within one of the Flyers early in the second set at 8-7, but an extended 9-3 Dayton run would push the Flyer lead to 17-10. The Ramblers didn't go down without a fight in the set, as a 4-1 run later in the set would pull Loyola within three at 23-20. Back-to-back blocks, first by
Taylor Venuto and Borum followed by a block from the tandem of
Emily Banitt and Venuto opened the run. Dayton would score two of the final three points to pick up the 25-21 decision and take a 2-0 lead in the match.
Â
Kills by Borum and Feldkamp would tie the third set up at 14-all, but Dayton would score the next four points to create a four-point advantage. The lead would hold, as the two teams would trade points down the stretch before the Flyers closed out the set, 25-20, to finish off the match.
Â
Loyola hits the road next weekend for the first time in A-10 play, taking on Davidson next Friday and Saturday.
