DAVIDSON, N.C. – The Loyola Chicago women's volleyball team racked up a season-high 15 blocks Saturday evening to sweep Davidson, 3-0, and complete a 2-0 weekend in North Carolina.
Â
Six different players recorded blocks Saturday evening, led by eight from
Anna Feldkamp (3 solo, 5 assist).
Bree Borum had a solo block and five assisted blocks while
Taylor Venuto had three solo blocks and assisted on two more. The 15 team blocks are tied for the seventh-most in a three-set match this season in Division I volleyball.
Â
"I think Bree did a great job mixing up the offense and finding the middles," said head coach
Amanda Berkley. "Our middles also did a great job being disciplined blocking and had a great night with 15 blocks. Proud of the team for staying composed and sticking to the game plan."
Â
Borum recorded her second double-double in as many matches with 33 assists and 11 digs. Feldkamp had nine kills on a .529 hitting percentage while her fellow middle blocker, Venuto, had six kills on a .357 hitting percentage.
Addie Barnes had a match-high 10 kills
Â
Loyola's defense was on full display Saturday, as Davidson hit a combined .070 as a team for the match and never had a set hitting percentage higher than the .091 mark the team had in the opening set.
Â
Barnes connected from the outside in the opening set to give the Ramblers a 6-5 lead and the team would maintain a lead for the remainder of the set, taking a 1-0 lead with a 25-19 victory.
Â
While Loyola led throughout most of the second set, Davidson rallied with three unanswered points to tie the set up at 22-all.
Emily Banitt pushed the Ramblers back in front, 23-22, before back-to-back blocks by Loyola, first by Barnes and then a tandem block by Borum and Feldkamp, sealed the 25-22 victory.
Â
Banitt put the Ramblers in front, 3-2, in the third set and the Ramblers would lead for the remainder of the set. The Wildcats scored five in a row to get within one at 14-13, but Loyola responded with four of the next five points to pull away and lead comfortably for the remainder of the set before closing out the 25-19 victory.
Â
