Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Ramblers Fall at Duquesne, 73-57

PITTSBURGH – The Loyola University Chicago women's basketball team's three-game win streak was snapped as the team fell, 73-57, to Duquesne Sunday inside UPMC Cooper Fieldhouse. Sitori Tanin notched her fourth double-double of the season after collecting 13 points and 10 rebounds in the road loss.

"We have a tremendous amount of respect for Duquesne - I think they run a beautiful offense and have experienced kids," said Loyola head coach Allison Guth. "They can attack you in the in the perimeter, they can attack you in the interior. They score 40 points in the paint and still kill us from the outside of the arc. I think that there's ways that we can alter some of our defensive game plan to help us the next time we play them. We tried to adjust at halftime, but we struggled,"

How it Happened
Tanin's made jumper from 3-point range gave the Ramblers a 10-6 edge early in the first quarter – LUC's largest lead of the game. The Dukes, with Loyola not making a field goal in the final 4:50, used a 14-2 run through the remainder of the frame to take a 20-12 lead heading into the next 10 minutes – a lead they would not relinquish.

The Ramblers started the second quarter on a 6-5 run after Mallory Ramage's layup and four points at the free throw line from Tanin and Alyssa Fisher. A quick 7-0 sprint by Duquesne though inflated its lead to 32-18 at the 3:56 mark. Sam Galanopoulos drilled back-to-back 3-pointers to slow the growth and make the score 32-24, but the Dukes hit a three before the halftime buzzer to keep the gap at 10 points (39-29).

The Dukes outscored Loyola, 9-4, at the first media timeout in the third quarter to claim a 48-33 advantage. Loyola Chicago took off on a quick 7-1 run from 3:22 to 1:57, shrinking Duquesne's lead back down to 10 points (51-41).

From the end of the third to midway through the fourth quarter though, the Dukes outscored the Maroon and Gold, 13-2, and held a 64-43 advantage, its largest lead of the game. Loyola did outscore the Dukes, 18-16, through the final 10 minutes and ended the game on an 8-5 run, but Duquesne held on to win it, 73-57.
