Loyola Chicago Stumbles at Rhode Island

Ramblers see second consecutive A-10 loss.

KINGSTON, R.I – Under the lights at Rhode Island, Loyola Chicago faced its second Atlantic 10 loss, 1-0, in a gritty battle against the Rams that saw 13 shots from the Ramblers.

"The effort was there, and we created the chances. We were missing the final product. Credit to Rhode Island, they were dangerous in the final third and converted. We will recover, regroup, and turn our attention to Sunday," said head coach Angela Staveskie

The Ramblers are now 8-4-5 overall, 3-2-4 in A-10 play and tied for sixth in the conference standings.

How It Happened
An early break away and shot attempt from sophomore forward Zoe Hevey set the tone for the Ramblers in the first half. Loyola outshot Rhode Island 8-3 in the first 45 minutes; Hevey had three shots, two on-target. Jaimee Cibulka, Taylor Harrison, Jocelyn Leigh Faith Grisdale and Emily Rossi each tested the frame once.

It was a back-and-forth battle between the posts for the Ramblers and the Rams. Rhode Island goalkeeper Chelsea Mohammed, in her fifth match this season, made five saves in the first half, almost matching her career-high seven. The Rams' offense had three attempts, one of which was snagged by Ramblers' keeper Allison Deardorff.

Rhode Island's leading scorer Lauren MacDonald put the Rams on the board at the 51st minute after a break away kick started by Sam Hagerty. Mohammed and Deardorff shut out the rest of the half between the posts.

Despite an all out attack in the first half and finishing with 13 shots, eight on goal, the Ramblers came up short for another conference point.
