HOMER, Neb. – The Ramblers took home first-place at the Throw Down Up Top. Four Ramblers fell inside the top-10, including the individual champion
Charlie Kulwin. Kulwin tied his career-low round score with a 68 in round three. He finished the invitational six-under-par with a score of 213 (73-72-68).
It marks Kulwin's first ever individual title, and Loyola's best finish in a tournament since the Ramblers won the MVC title back in 2020-21.
"Wow, what a week," said head coach
Erik Hoops. "When I was trying to decide who to take this week, those upperclassmen just stuck out to me that it was time to have them play all together and show people what we can do. Getting that contribution from everyone is a huge testament to how hard those guys have pushed each other for moments like this. We know the abilities we've got, and this week showed what we can do when we bring it all together. I'm so proud of these guys."
Kulwin was on the mark from the first round, finishing on par with a score of 73. He improved by a stroke in round two to sit tied for fourth. His career-low round of 68 on the final day shot him up the leaderboards for his first ever individual win.
Over the three-day event, Kulwin had the third most birdies with 14.
Zach Mulhearn tied for fourth overall. He posted a final score of 216 (74-73-69). Improving every round, Mulhearn tied his career-best score in the third with a 69.
Also in the top-10 for Loyola was
Sebastian Kasun and
Ryan Walsh. Kasun tied for seventh, while Walsh tied for 10
th in his debut this season.
Kasun rose six spots by the final day, finishing with a score of 217 (76-72-69). His third-round score of 69 matched his career-low round score set last season in two different events. Walsh posted a score of 218 (72-74-72).
Dori Lee was the final member of the Rambler squad to compete. He finished tied for 34
th with a score of 227 (72-75-80).
As an individual,
Jackson Overton took 44
th. He improved each round to score 230 (81-79-70). His third-round score of 70 capped the personal best scores on the week. His previous best was 72 set last season on two occasions.
Loyola will look to carry this momentum into next week at the Flyer Invitational to wrap up fall action. The Ramblers will compete Oct. 21-22 in Dayton, Ohio.
