PHILADELPHIA – The Loyola University Chicago women's basketball team snapped its three-game skid Thursday night as the Ramblers downed La Salle, 73-39, on the road at Tom Gola Arena.
Sitori Tanin's fifth double-double of the season (19 points and 10 rebounds) highlighted 10 separate Ramblers scoring a bucket in the win.
"It was really fun for our offense to be clicking tonight," said Loyola head coach
Allison Guth after the win. "I thought our integrity defensively was really good and I think our team has bought into what we're trying to do,"
How it Happened
Loyola Chicago came out of the gates on a 7-0 run, taking command over La Salle early. In the first quarter alone, Loyola sunk six-of-13 attempts from the field (46-percent) and made three-of-seven shots from beyond the arc (43-percent). The Ramblers' defense turned four Explorers' turnovers into seven points while not allowing a single made 3-pointer through the first 10 minutes.
Alyssa Fisher and
Emma Nolan combined for back-to-back layups to start the second frame, ballooning Loyola's advantage to 19-10.
Sophia Nolan drilled her 10
th three of the season at the 7:37 mark, sparking another 7-0 Loyola sprint.
Sitori Tanin eclipsed double figure points at 4:24 after her and-one layup gave Loyola a 29-18 lead. Tanin cashed in two more at the charity stripe to end the half as Loyola led by 12 points (35-23) heading into the locker room. Â
Loyola's 13-4 stretch, capped by a three from
Ali Berg, forced the La Salle bench to call a timeout at 5:22 in the third frame. But the Explorers couldn't do anything to slow the red-hot Ramblers. Fisher drilled a trey coming out of the timeout, leading to a 10-4 stretch from Loyola. The Maroon and Gold outscored La Salle, 23-8, through the quarter, and shot the ball at a 60-percent clip (9-for-15).
Loyola Chicago ended the game on an 8-2 run, including buckets from
Destiny Jackson and
Mallory Ramage, to inflate the final score to 73-39 – its largest lead of the game.
Notes
- The Ramblers ended the night 28-of-51 from the field (55-percent) – its second-best shooting performance of the year.
- Tanin's 19 points and 10 rebounds marked her fifth double-double of the season and 10th of her career.
- Sam Galanopoulos was close behind, scoring 13 points while collecting four rebounds and four assists. Her four assists tied the game-high.
- The Ramblers out-rebounded La Salle, 39-28, to mark its third-best outing on the glass of the season.
- Jackson logged her first-ever block and brought down her first rebounds of the season.
- Loyola snagged 10 offensive boards and tuned them into 13 second chance points.
- The Ramblers won the battle in the paint, scoring 32 points while limiting the Explorers to 22.
- The Ramblers never trailed in the game.

"I do think that we have to kind of look at that we still turn the ball over too many times. Those are 15 more possessions you can add back on the offensive end. So, we've got to be a little bit sharper there, but I'm absolutely impressed by our third and fourth quarter aggressiveness as we prep for Davidson."
