WASHINGTON, D.C. – Loyola Chicago softball opened Atlantic 10 play at George Washington Saturday. The Ramblers stormed by the Revolutionaries in game one, 10-0. GW then rallied back with a 6-5 win in game two.
Loyola improves to 11-11 overall, 1-1 in A-10 action.
"Today was a tale of whomever played better defense won," said head coach
Alicia Abbott. "Our bats were on today, and we made an impressive showing in game one. Game two, we didn't play at the level we know how to and it cost us."
Game One: Loyola 10, George Washington 0 (6 inn.)
The Ramblers were swift in game one, pulling ahead 1-0 in the first inning.
Sydney Barnett kept her momentum from last week going with an RBI double to plate the first run.
Loyola tacked on another three runs in the second.
Teagan Sopczak and
Sierra Sass singled to get on base. Both would score later on an
Ava Bieneman single to left that caused an error to clear the bases for a 4-0 edge.
It quickly became a 6-0 lead in the third with a two-run single from
Hannah Nalley who got in on the action. The dominance didn't end in the third, as the Ramblers went on to score four more runs on four hits in the sixth. Loyola run-ruled GW, 10-0.

Game Two: George Washington 6, Loyola 5
The second game of Saturday's doubleheader came down to the final inning of action with the Revolutionaries pulling away with a walk off win in the seventh. Both teams put a run on the in the first. Barnett plated Loyola's with a sac fly, while Williams doubled to bring home Ramierz.
The Ramblers took a 2-1 lead in the third with help from Nalley who brought in Bieneman for the run. GW had an answer with three in the bottom frame to take a 4-2 edge.
Loyola chipped away with a run in the fourth and took the lead in the top of the seventh. Bieneman and Lesnicki hit RBI-singles to plate the two runs for a 5-4 lead.
Lauth and Cano hit back-to-back doubles for the Revolutionaries in the bottom of the seventh for the walk-off 6-5 win.
