Softball Travels to Dayton

CHICAGO – The Ramblers continue Atlantic 10 play on the road this weekend with a trip to take on the Flyers. Loyola Chicago and Dayton will play a single game Friday at 3 p.m. CT with a doubleheader Saturday beginning at 11 a.m. CT. Both teams are looking to rally from non-conference losses earlier this week.
 
Quick Hits
• Loyola closed its non-conference slate at Northwestern earlier this week where the Wildcats took a 7-3 win.
Liz Sedakis hit her first career home run in Evanston to get the Ramblers on the board.
• In the home opening weekend, Loyola captured a series win over George Mason with a 4-3 walk-off in game one followed by a 6-5 walk-off in game two.
• Last week, Riley Owens led the Ramblers at the plate batting .385. She tallied five hits, including a double and triple. Owens scored three times and brought in three runs.
• Sydney Barnett had a dominant week at the plate hitting .353. She recorded five hits, including two doubles, one triple and two homers. Barnett led the team with eight RBI and scored three times.
• In the circle, Peyton Pepkowski made three starts. She picked up a win and struck out 24 batters over 19.1 innings. Pepkowski recorded 10 in her game one win over the Patriots.
• Freshman pitched Maddy Hickey picked up her first career win in the circle helping Loyola down the Patriots in extras of game three.
• Head coach Alicia Abbott is in her fifth season at the helm. She has 83 wins with the Ramblers.
 
Scouting Dayton
The Flyers are 13-13 overall and 3-3 in A-10 play heading into the weekend. Dayton dropped two non-conference games earlier this week to RV Kentucky (4-3) and Ohio State (6-2). The Flyers were tabbed the league's preseason favorite ahead of the season starting. Currently, Dayton ranks second in the A-10 with a 3.49 ERA.
 
At the plate, Maddie Kapsimalis leads Dayton batting .346 over 26 starts. She has a team-high 27 hits, including six doubles, one triple, and two homers. Kapsimalis has 20 RBI and 12 runs scored. In the circle, Izzy Kemp is 7-5 overall 16 appearances. Kemp has a 2.27 ERA, two saves, and 78 strikeouts.
 
Cara Clark is in her 17th season as head coach of the Flyers. She's compiled a 393-417 record at the helm.
