CHICAGO – Rambler softball pulled off a series sweep over the Bonnies Sunday with a 5-1 win.
Bailey Johnson picked up her first win of the season in the circle, while
Ava Bieneman and
Teagan Sopczak each tallied two hits.
Loyola improves to 19-19 overall and 8-7 in A-10 play.
"Bailey did a great job in the circle to secure the win," said head coach
Alicia Abbott. "Ava and Teagan had good days at the plate and we were able to manufacture runs again today. Our Ramblers took care of business this weekend."
It took until the third inning in Sunday's series closer for the Ramblers to light up offensively. Sopczak led off with a single and scored on a deep triple to left center from
Ava Bieneman on the fourth pitch of the inning. Bieneman made the Bonnies pay for a throwing error at the plate to put Loyola up 2-0.
SBU avoided its third shutout with a run in the fifth inning. Bobbey doubled to right for an RBI to cut the lead, 2-1.
The Ramblers answered with two more in the bottom of the fifth. Sopczak found home on a
Liz Sedakis single to left, while Bieneman was plated on a wild pitch.
Loyola's final run of the game scored on another throwing error by the Bonnies, and the Ramblers went on to win, 5-1.
