Five Ramblers Named to MAAC All-Academic Team

Ramblers join a list of 45 student-athletes

CHICAGO (April 18, 2024) – After an announcement by the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC), five members of the Loyola University Chicago women's golf team have been named to the MAAC's All-Academic Team for their contributions in the classroom throughout the 2023-24 season.

Senior Abby Thielbar receives her third consecutive All-Academic selection, dating back to Loyola's days in the Missouri Valley Conference (2021-22, 2022-23, 2023-24), while senior Kate Meier, along with juniors Cate Reisinger and Jolie Brochu receive their second career nominations. Rounding it out is sophomore Adie Maki, who earns her place on the All-Academic Team for the first time in her career.

"Our players put in a lot of work both on and off the golf course, so I'm very happy to see them rewarded for their accomplishments in the classroom as well," said head coach Brandy Johnston. "They should all be very proud!"

Thielbar, majoring in molecular/cellular neuroscience and biology, is putting the finishing touches on an illustrious four-year career as a Rambler. The senior recently took her highest finish of the season at the Dolores Black Falcon Invitational, placing in 15th with a two-day score of 150 (75-75).

Like Thielbar, Meier has been a presence on the team for all four years. Playing in the most rounds of her career this season, the biology major set her 54-hole career-low with a 232 (77-79-76) at the Brittney Kelly Classic in September.

Reisinger, a finance major, is on pace to play in the most rounds in a season in her three-year career. Her new 54-hole career-low came at the Butler Fall Invitational, taking a 10th place finish with a 219 (75-71-73).

Brochu, a political science major, has played in 25 rounds for the Maroon & Gold this season. The junior took her first career top-10 finish, and was the Ramblers' leading scorer at the Loyola Parkinson Invitational with a 9th place finish (74-79-77=230).

Maki, also a finance major, is on pace to have a historic season in her second year in Rogers Park. The sophomore currently leads the team in scoring average with a score of 74.9 in 25 rounds, while also taking three top-10 finishes to lead the team.

To be eligible for the MAAC All-Academic Team, a student-athlete must complete two semesters at their institution and hold a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 on a 4.0 scale.
