Men's Basketball Lands Transfer Forward Nwaokorie

He played three seasons at UC San Diego

CHICAGO – Loyola Chicago men's basketball secured another transfer Friday morning. Head coach Drew Valentine announced the signing of Francis Nwaokorie out of UC San Diego. Nwaokorie played the last three seasons with the Triton.

"I couldn't be happier to have Francis as a part of our program," said Valentine. "He's a versatile and experienced inside/out scorer that has been a huge piece of WINNING. He plays the game with an incredibly high motor, and we love the way he competes on both sides of the ball."

Nwaokorie was a two-time All-Big West honorable mention (2022-23, 2023-24).

As a junior last season, he scored his 1,000th career point and pulled down his 500th career rebound. He finished the season averaging 11.3 points and 5.5 rebounds per game. He scored at least 10 points in 17 contests over the year, including a season-best 16 points and 10 rebounds for a double-double vs. UC Riverside.

The Minnesota native made an immediate impact with the Triton as a freshman. He was named a Kyle Macy Award finalist and named to the Kyle Macy Freshman All-America Team. He averaged 11.8 points and 5.8 rebounds per game.

In high school, Nwaokorie was a three-time all-conference selection and an Associated Press All-State honoree as a senior. He was a two-time captain and team MVP. During his time, the Rebels won a conference title and a No. 1 state ranking in 2021.

"He impacts winning with his veteran approach, IQ, and work ethic just as much as putting the ball in the basket," continued Valentine. "Our staff can't wait to see how he takes off as a part of our championship culture!"
