CHICAGO – The Ramblers earned their second Atlantic 10 sweep and improved to 9-2 on their home turf after downing UMass 5-2 Sunday afternoon.
Sydney Barnett went 2-for-3 with three RBI and a run scored to lead Loyola Chicago.
The Ramblers improve to 23-20 overall and 12-8 in A-10 play.
Loyola scored twice in the first inning as Barnett scorched her second pitch over the center field fence to plate herself and
Ava Bieneman.
The next three innings were quiet offensively with the Ramblers tallying just three more hits. They were finally able to tack on another run in the fifth for a 3-0 lead. Bieneman walked in the lead-off spot and advanced to third on a sac bunt from
Haley Wallace. Barnett placed a ball through the infield to bring Bieneman home.
The Ramblers gained base runners in the sixth after a hit-by-pitch and throwing error. The error plated one run, while
Teagan Sopczak stole home for a 5-0 edge.
UMass got on the board in the seventh with a pair of runs on three hits, but Loyola stayed composed for the 5-2 win.
