CHICAGO – Head men's basketball coach
Drew Valentine completes his 2024-25 roster with the signing of Kymany Houinsou. Houinsou is a guard out of Washington State where he played two seasons.
"He is just a BALLER! When considering what "position" or "prototype" we wanted with our last scholarship, we kept coming back to someone that most importantly comes from a winning culture and someone that has positional versatility. Kymany is that," said Valentine. "He reminds us so much of Aher Uguak and
Patrick Mwamba defensively, with his intensity and athleticism, but he can do some of the things Ryan Schwieger did for us offensively as a skilled and multi-positional inside/out play maker."
Houinsou played in all 35 games for the Cougars last season. He averaged 4.3 points, 3.4 rebounds, 2.1 assists, 0.4 steals, and 0.7 blocks per game as a sophomore. He posted a 43.5 field goal percentage.
The France native scored 10+ points on three occasions, including a career-high 13 points against Rhode Island on Nov. 19.
"Our program and coaching staff have a proven track-record of player development, and we really think that within our playing style and championship culture, his game will take off," continued Valentine.
Prior to his collegiate career, Houinsou played for Saint-Quentin BB and came up in the ASVEL Lyon youth system. He started for the French U18 National Team in 2022 where he averaged 10 points and 5.6 assists per game, while shooting 64 percent from two-point range.
At the 2021 U18 European Challengers, Houinsou averaged 10.4 ppg, 7.2 apg, 7.2 rpg, and 2.2 spg.
Houinsou completes the 2024-25 roster joining three other transfers and a four-member freshmen class.
"I'm really excited about the deep, talented, experienced, and skilled roster that we've put together with this final addition," stated Valentine. "See you all in Gentile next year!"
