DAVIDSON, N.C. – Loyola Chicago men's golf traveled to Davidson for this season's River Run Collegiate. The invite concluded after two rounds due to heavy rainfall. The Ramblers posted a two-round score of 593 (293-300) to take third overall.
"We're a little upset we didn't finish off strong today, but we handled adversity well this week," said head coach
Erik Hoops. "We played through a passing tropical storm and didn't let us get too far off guard. You always want to have a chance to win going into the last day, and we had that this morning. It's something this team has struggled with before too often, and we're teeing it up the last day with no trophies on the line. That was different today, and we're glad we put ourselves in that position. It's a different pressure playing with that on the line. We'll put ourselves back in that spot and improve."
Loyola was paced by
Charlie Kulwin who landed second on the individual leaderboards. He posted a two-round score of 143 (72-71), finishing one-over-par. It's the first top-five finish for the Ramblers this season.
"Great week by Charlie leading us," continued Hoops. "He was pretty frustrated with last week, and he put that behind him and had a great couple of days."
Dori Lee had another strong outing for the Ramblers, placing 17
th with a score of 149 (72-77). He finished on par in the first round with Kulwin.
Clay Heilman also saw a top-30 finish, taking 24
th. He had a two-round score of 150 (75-75), while
Zach Mulhearn was just one stroke behind him at 151 (74-77) overall.
Concluding Loyola competition was
Sebastian Kasun. He shot a 78 in both rounds to finish at 156 total.
The Ramblers continue play next week at the Zach Johnson Invite. The invite is hosted by Drake in Des Moines, Iowa. Last year, Loyola placed fifth out of 13 teams. Kasun and Kulwin placed in the top-25.
