LEXINGTON, Ky. – Loyola Chicago's Daniel Fabikovic was named the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) National Collegiate Player of the Week, announced by the league's office on Tuesday, after lifting the Ramblers to two straight victories in their season opening weekend at home.
Loyola defeated previously ranked No. 8 Penn State, 3-1, Jan.10 where Fabikovic had two team-highs of 14 kills and six digs on .385 hitting. The following day against Maryville on Jan. 11, the sophomore outside hitter marked a career-high 22 kills on .528 hitting.
Across eight sets, he averaged 4.5 kills, .468 hitting, 1.38 digs and 4.88 points across eight sets.
The Czech Republic native was also named the Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association (MIVA) Offensive Player of the Week earlier this morning. Both of the weekly awards are firsts for Fabikovic. He becomes the 20th Rambler to receive the national weekly honor, and the most recent since Dan Mangun was named the AVCA Player of the Week in March 2024.
The Ramblers are back in action this weekend as they host Saint Francis on Friday, Jan. 17 at 7 p.m. and Rockhurst on Saturday, Jan. 18 at 7 p.m.
