DAVIDSON, N.C. - The Ramblers won their fourth straight match Friday night in Loyola Chicago's 3-1 victory over Davidson. Loyola bounced back for three straight sets after dropping the first to the Wildcats.
The victory boosted the Ramblers' record to 10-10 overall and 7-1 in A-10 action.
The Ramblers attack was paced by Kaitlyn Burke, who finished with 19 kills on the day while accumulating a hitting percentage of .436, and by Ann Marie Remmes, who had 10. Defensively, had three players reach double figures in digs, including Sam Falk's 13, 12 from Jae Fitting, and 12 more from Emma Henry. From the front row, Avary Deblieck contributed 10 blocks.
"Davidson is always a very scrappy team, and it was very evident tonight with the libero having 33 digs," said head coach Amanda Berkley. "The Wildcats were able to frustrate out hitters, but I am proud of the turnaround we had after set one. Kaitlyn had another great hitting night along with out middles who played a very offensive match. Looking forward to another battle tomorrow."
How It Happened
SET 1 | The Ramblers found themselves in an early deficit, losing a tough first set 25-17. Loyola trailed by as many as eight points as Davidson grabbed the advantage for good three points in. The Ramblers struggled on the attack, hitting just .043 to Davidson's .255.
SET 2 | Loyola fired back after dropping the first set to take the second set 25-19, tying the match at one set apiece. The Ramblers earned the set victory thanks to a solid showing on the attacking side. Loyola put together a .412 attack percentage with 16 kills in the set win. Burke began to heat up with a team-leading six kills in the second.
SET 3 | Loyola grabbed another win in the third set, 25-20. Loyola took the lead for good at 14-13 in a set that showcased three lead changes before the Ramblers took over. Burke had another eight kills, while Henry dished out 14 assists in the third.
SET 4 | Loyola closed out the match with a 25-19 fourth-set victory, winning their third set in a row. The Ramblers took the lead for good at 11-10 in a set that featured seven ties and five lead changes. Loyola got a solid defensive performance from a front row that blocked five Davidson attacks in the stanza. DeBlieck had three of the five blocks and was one of four Ramblers to tally two kills in the set four win.
