CHICAGO -
Arved von Vegesack's second-half goal helped Loyola Chicago earn a 1-1 draw against Fordham on Saturday afternoon at Loyola Soccer Park.
"I was really happy with our team and proud of the resolve we showed," Head Coach
Steve Bode said. "We gave up an early goal, but the guys kept fighting and chipped away at the game. As the first half went on, we started to get a foothold and turn the momentum. Against a veteran Fordham team with a lot of experienced players, that's not easy to do. I thought once we scored the equalizer, we might find another one based on how the game was going. Overall, I'm proud of our fight and the way we responded."
How it Happened
Fordham (5-2-3, 2-0-2) struck first in the sixth minute through Daniel D'Ippolito, assisted by Ede Gramberg.
After falling behind early, the Ramblers (4-3-4, 1-1-1 Atlantic 10) battled back to level the match in the 81st minute when von Vegesack converted off an assist from
Hugo Urdiales with his head. The equalizer marked the sophomore's second goal in as many games.
Loyola created several first-half chances, outshooting the Rams 10-7 before halftime and finishing the match with 15 total shots to Fordham's 17.
Ben Bischof led the attack with three attempts, while
Jack McFeely and
Antonio Pinto each added two.
Goalkeeper
Aidan Crawford made three saves for the Ramblers, including a pair of key stops late to preserve the draw.
