Ramblers Swept by Flyers

CHICAGO - Avary DeBlieck totaled 12 kills with an .846 hitting percentage, but Loyola Chicago fell in three sets (17-25, 23-25, 19-25) to Dayton Saturday at home.

The loss dropped Loyola to 11-14 overall and 8-5 in A-10 play.

"Hats off to Dayton. They're a very good, disciplined, and trained team," said head coach Amanda Berkley. "We had some good block touches at times, and they did a good job covering. That's something we've got to take away from this match. Emma had a good game finding the middles. Avary had a great match hitting over .800, so props to her, too."

How It Happened
SET 1 | The Ramblers found themselves in an early deficit, losing a tough first set 25-17. Loyola trailed by as many as eight points as Dayton grabbed the advantage for good at 5-4 in a set that was tied up four times before the Flyers took control. DeBlieck and Ann Marie Remmes had three kills each.

SET 2 | Loyola then dropped the second set, 25-23. The Ramblers battled back from a seven-point deficit midway through and even got within one down the stretch, 24-23, but Dayton held on to take the set. DeBlieck had another six kills, while Remmes tallied five.

SET 3 | LThe Ramblers fell in a tough set, 25-19, giving the Flyers a sweep. Loyola trailed by as many as nine points. DeBlieck and Kate Maley had three kills each, but Dayton held Loyola's hitting to .119 in the set, earning the win.

Game Notes

  • DeBlieck was efficient in attacking situations in the match, accumulating 12 kills while hitting .846.
  • Remmes added eight kills in the middle.
  • Loyola got a match-high 14 digs from Jae Fitting.
  • Loyola attackers were helped by a match-high 33 assists from Emma Henry.
