Loyola Chicago Women’s Basketball Signs Cleveland Native Gemma Wichmann

CHICAGO - Loyola University Chicago head women's basketball head coach Allison Guth announced the signing of Gemma Wichmann, a 6-foot power/point forward from Magnificat High School in Cleveland, Ohio.

"Gemma is an extremely exciting addition to our program," said Guth. "She has had both an impressive high school and travel ball career thus far and will immediately impact us with her motor and physicality,"

Wichmann, a multi-sport athlete and two-time Northeast Lakes All-District honoree, helped guide Magnificat to back-to-back Division I Final Four appearances in 2024 and 2025. Wichmann earned the 2025 Warrior of the Year Award, 2025 Harry Groman Defensive Player of the Year Award, and served as a team captain during her decorated prep career.

Beyond the court, Wichmann excelled academically as a member of the National Honor Society, National Spanish Honor Society, and as Student Class President, maintaining Honor Roll status throughout high school.

On the club circuit, Wichmann competes with Legends U under coach Bryce McKey, where she has played a key role in helping her team earn a 2023 Elite 40 National Championship runner-up finish and 2024 and 2025 Power 24 National Championships.

"Gemma is a skilled basketball player who is strong, can score in a variety of ways, and, most importantly, has a knack for rebounding the basketball," continued Guth. "Her toughness and grit allow her to create second-chance opportunities for her teammates' success on both ends of the floor. We are eager for her to utilize her ability to alter opponents' shots, rebound the basketball, and convert offensive opportunities. We are thrilled to welcome Gemma and the entire Wichmann family to Rambler Nation,".
