Rubin Sets Block Record, Loyola Falls to Colorado State

CHICAGO – Miles Rubin recorded his 177th career block Sunday, breaking the all-time career record that stood since the '80s. He finished with three blocks in Loyola Chicago's 80-67 loss to Colorado State.

The Ramblers fall to 1-4 overall.

"We're not playing the most inspired basketball right now," said head coach Drew Valentine. "The positive is, we can control our effort, energy, and spirit. We can change all three of those things and have it translate on the court. We've got to continue to grow, and we still have plenty of time to win more games."

How It Happened
The Rams jumped out to a 5-0 lead, but an alley-oop dunk from Rubin and three-pointer from Joshua Ola-Joseph tied it early. The Ramblers answered each of CSU's punches through the first seven minutes. Justin Moore drilled a three at 13:24 to tie it again, 11-11.

Colorado State started to pull away on a 13-4 run by the five-minute mark and pushed its lead to double-figure on a three at the 2:34 mark, 27-17. Almost a minute later, another three-pointer gave the Rams their largest lead yet at 15. Loyola scored four of the next five points cutting into CSU's halftime lead, 33-21.

The Ramblers and Rams traded baskets to start the second half before CSU gained some momentum on a 11-1 run to push the lead to 23 on a made three at the 14:53 mark. A few minutes later, the lead climbed to 26 after four straight made free throws.

The lead stayed at 20 or above until the final six minutes of the game. Rubin hit a pair of free throws just under the six-minute mark, and then the Ramblers used a 14-5 run inside the final four minutes to cut the deficit to 14. The late game effort wasn't enough, and the Rams came away with the win, 80-67.
