RICHMOND - No. 2 Loyola Chicago rallied from a 2-0 hole to pull off the reverse sweep over No. 6 Duquesne, 3-2. The win moves the Ramblers on to the Atlantic 10 championship match for the fourth straight season. Loyola will defend its title Sunday against No. 4 VCU. First serve is set for 11 a.m. CT.
Kaitlyn Burke led the Ramblers with a double-double. She recorded 21 kills and a career-high 28 digs.Â
"What a match. Duquesne really brought it today. They played incredible with a lot of fight and grit," said head coach Amanda Berkley. "I thought our team showed resiliency and gritty play. I am really proud of the team for turning it around after set two. Kaitlyn had an unbelievable match. She played hard from the first point. Ann Marie was great offensively, and I thought Sam did well defensively digging some very hard hit balls."
How It Happened
SET 1 | The Ramblers dropped a tight first set, losing 27-25 in a game that was tied nine times and had five lead changes. Burke had her double-double in the first set alone with 11 kills and 15 digs. She hit .435, while the Ramblers hit .239 as a whole.
SET 2 | A 25-15 second-set loss put Loyola in a 2-0 hole. Loyola trailed by as many as 10 points as Duquesne grabbed the advantage for good at 12-11 in a set that was tied up two times before the Dukes took over the lead. Ann Marie Remmes started to heat up with a team-leading four kills.
SET 3 | Loyola  stayed alive after a win in set three, 25-20. The Ramblers took over for good at 20-19 in a set that featured 12 ties and seven lead changes. Five Ramblers tallied t least two kills each. Remmes led with four.
SET 4 | Loyola continued their comeback, winning the fourth set 25-20. A solid showing on the attacking side led the Ramblers to victory in the set. Loyola registered a .341 attack percentage with 17 kills in the set win. Karli Molnau led the Ramblers with six kills, while Burke and Remmes tallied five and four, respectively. Jae Fitting got involved on the offensive side, tallying two of the team's three aces.Â
SET 5 | Loyola's rally culminated in a 15-11 fifth-set victory, and take the match 3-2. The Ramblers took the lead for good at 11-10 in a set that showcased four lead changes. Remmes led Loyola with four kills, but Claire Van Den Herik delivered the final blow to move the Ramblers on in the tournament.
Game Notes
- Burke tallied a team-high in kills (21) and recorded a career-high in digs (28).
- Remmes added 19 kills, while hitting .326.
- Molnau wrapped up double-digit kills performances with 13. Avary DeBlieck added eight, and Van Den Herik seven.

- Sam Falk joined Bruke with a double-double. Falk tallied 10 assists and a match-high 34 digs.
- This marks the fourth straight appearance in the A-10 Championship match for the Ramblers. They look to win their third title in four years since joining the league.
