Loyola Sweeps on Senior Day

CHICAGO - Ann Marie Remmes racked up 16 kills with an .842 attack percentage to help carry Loyola Chicago to a sweep over Rhode Island on Senior Day. With the win, the Ramblers clinched a spot in the Atlantic 10 tournament for the fourth straight season.

Loyola improves to 13-15 overall and 10-6 in A-10 action.

"I'm proud of the team for pulling off another win, especially on an emotional day for the seniors," said head coach Amanda Berkley. "I thought we had another strong serving day, especially Emma who had another three aces on the weekend. Excited to wrap up the regular season next weekend at George Mason and hopefully have a few more wins before heading to Richmond for the tournament."

How It Happened
SET 1 | The Ramblers opened up an early one set to none lead, winning the first set 25-20. Loyola never trailed by more than five points and grabbed the advantage for good at 17-16 in a set that showcased three lead changes. Remmes and Kaitlyn Burke had five kills each, combining for 10 of Loyola's 15 in the first.

SET 2 | Loyola took set two 25-13 to go up 2-0. The Ramblers led from the opening point and opened up as much as a 13-point lead at 21-8 before closing out the set, collecting 17 kills without registering an attack error along the way. The Ramblers hit .586. Burke had five kills, while Remmes and Leyna Nguyen had four each.

SET 3 |  The Ramblers took set the third set 25-20 to pull off the sweep. Loyola took the lead for good at 16-15 in a set that showcased three lead changes. Loyola had another 17 kills with four Ramblers tallying three or more each. Remmes had seven, while Burke's fourth went down as match point.

Game Notes

  • Remmes led for the third straight match with 16 kills, while hitting .842.
  • Burke added 14 kills and eight digs.
  • Emma Henry had a team-leading three aces and 38 assists.
  • Jae Fitting led Loyola with 10 digs.
