Loyola Chicago Hosts Duquesne For NGWSD Game

Tip-off set for 2 p.m. CT on ESPN+

CHICAGO - The Loyola University Chicago women's basketball team hosts Duquesne tomorrow (Feb. 15) inside Gentile Arena for its annual National Girls and Women in Sports Day game. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m. with the game streaming live on ESPN+. Sam Brief (Play by Play) and Stephond Robinson (Commentary) will call the game.

PROMOTIONS
  • Kids 13 and under are invited to Loyola's NGWSD clinic on Feb. 15, featuring a free 12:30 p.m. clinic in the Alfie Practice Facility. Registered participants get a free T-shirt and a ticket to the game.
  • The first 100 students at the game will receive a free "Everyone Watches Ramblers Women's Sports" T-shirt.
  • Students have the opportunity to participate in a priority housing raffle for a chance to secure preferred accommodations.
QUICK HITS
  • With just four games left until the Atlantic 10 Championship, Loyola Chicago and Duquesne are one-of-three league matchups this Saturday. 
  • Both teams look to snap their losing streaks on Saturday, with the Dukes seeking to end a three-game slide and Loyola aiming to halt a six-game skid.
  • All eyes will be on Naelle Bernard who transferred from Duquesne to Loyola this past summer.
  • Loyola most recently was defeated, 53-41, by George Washington on Wednesday.
  • Loyola Chicago led in points off turnovers (14-13), second-chance points (9-4), and bench scoring (26-6).
  • After scoring just eight points in the first 20 minutes, the Ramblers outscored George Washington, 33-25, in the second half.
  • Coming off the bench, Jess Finney led Loyola in scoring with all 10 of her points coming in the second half. She also had a team-high six rebounds and three assists.
RAMBLER BITES
  • Five letterwinners return to the roster, including two starters. The Ramblers welcome 10 newcomers, including six freshman and four transfers.
  • Head coach Allison Guth is in her third season at the helm of Loyola. 2024-25 is her ninth year as a head coach after spending the first six seasons at Yale.
  • Loyola Chicago's nine-win improvement from 2022-23 to 2023-24 was the second best turnaround in the Atlantic 10.
  • The Ramblers named returners Sitori Tanin, Thoranna Kika Hodge-Carr, and Kira Chivers team captains for the 2024-25 season.
  • A trio of 2023-24 Ramblers inked professional contracts overseas this past summer: Emma Nolan (Bad Homburg, Germany), Sophia Nolan (Dillingen Diamonds, Germany), and Sam Galanopoulos (Esperides Kallitheas, Greece). There are now seven former Ramblers who have played pro basketball.
SCOUTING THE DUQUESNE DUKES
  • Head Coach Dan Burt is 224-141 (.614) in 12 seasons at Duquesne.
  • The Dukes are 15-9 and 6-7 in A-10 play this season.
  • Most recently, Duquesne fell, 72-52, to Massachusetts this past Wednesday at home.
  • Megan McConnell and Andjela Matic led the Dukes with 15 points each.
  • McConnell leads the A-10 with 18.5 points per game. Jerni Kiaku is close behind with 13.3.
  • McConnell is also tough on the glass with 7.0 rebounds per game, ranking ninth in the conference.
  • The Dukes own the third-best offense in the league, averaging 73.5 points per game.
ALL-TIME AGAINST DUQUESNE
  • Loyola is searching for its first win over the Dukes since joining the A-10.
  • Duquesne leads the series, 3-2, all-time. 
  • The first time the pair met was Jan. 23, 1993, in Pittsburgh. Loyola won, 66-63.
  • Last season, the two teams met just once with Duquesne pulling out a 73-57 win at home.
  • Sitori Tanin notched her fourth double-double of the season after collecting 13 points and 10 rebounds in the road loss.
  • Kira Chivers scored eight points off the bench.
LAST TIME OUT
  • In a night dedicated to breast cancer awareness with the annual Pink Game, Loyola team fought hard after trailing by as many as 22 points but ultimately fell, 53-41, to George Washington on Wednesday night at Gentile Arena.
