Loyola Chicago to Clash With UMass

Tip-off set for 5 p.m. CT on ESPN+

CHICAGO - The Loyola University Chicago Women's basketball team is set to travel to Massachusetts this Wednesday (Feb. 19). Tip-off at the Mullins Center is set for 5 p.m. CT on ESPN+.

QUICK HITS
  • With just three games left on Loyola's regular season schedule, the Ramblers look to gain some momentum heading into the 2024-25 Atlantic 10 Championship in Henrico, Va.
  • The Maroon and Gold have two road games left on the docket, starting with Massachusetts this Wednesday.
  • Loyola will enjoy a well-deserved bye weekend after Wednesday before action ramps back up Feb. 26 at VCU.
  • The Ramblers will round out the regular season March 1 versus Saint Louis at Gentile Arena as the team celebrates Senior Day.
  • Most recently, LUC lost, 75-70, to Duquesne at home this past Saturday.
  • Naelle Bernard was the best player on the court, tallying a game-high 25 points against her former team to etch a new career-high.
  • She was 10-of-14 from the field and 5-of-8 from long range. Her 10 made field goals also marked a career-high.
  • Bernard's 25 points weren't the only offensive explosion from Loyola. The team produced 41 points in the fourth quarter which are believed to be the program's most in a single quarter against a D-I foe. It was LUC's first loss this season when outshooting their opponent.
  • Audrey Deptula was also effective as she came off the bench and delivered 14 points, one shy of tying her career-high.
  • Sitori Tanin nearly had a double-double, posting 10 points and corralling seven rebounds.
  • The Maroon and Gold outrebounded its opponent for the first time since Dec. 29, 2024, against St. Bonaventure, winning the battle, 40-31.
  • The attendance of 1,663 on NGWSD was a program record for a non-Field Trip Day game.
RAMBLER BITES
  • Five letterwinners return to the roster, including two starters. The Ramblers welcome 10 newcomers, including six freshman and four transfers.
  • Head coach Allison Guth is in her third season at the helm of Loyola. 2024-25 is her ninth year as a head coach after spending the first six seasons at Yale.
  • Loyola Chicago's nine-win improvement from 2022-23 to 2023-24 was the second best turnaround in the Atlantic 10.
  • The Ramblers named returners Sitori Tanin, Thoranna Kika Hodge-Carr, and Kira Chivers team captains for the 2024-25 season.
  • A trio of 2023-24 Ramblers inked professional contracts overseas this past summer: Emma Nolan (Bad Homburg, Germany), Sophia Nolan (Dillingen Diamonds, Germany), and Sam Galanopoulos (Esperides Kallitheas, Greece). There are now seven former Ramblers who have played pro basketball.
SCOUTING THE UMASS MINUTEWOMEN
  • Head Coach Mike Leflar is 19-39 (.328) in two seasons with the Minutewomen.
  • UMass is 14-12 overall and 9-6 in the Atlantic 10 this season - stark improvement from the team's five-win campaign last season.
  • Last week, Massachusetts beat Duquesne on the road, 72-52, before falling to George Mason, 76-66, at home.
  • The recognition of Stephanie Kulesza and Yahmani McKayle as A-10 Player and Rookie of the Week builds momentum for the Minutewomen as UMass prepares to face Loyola Chicago.
  • Meanwhile, Megan Olbrys' 55-percent field goal clip ranks fourth in the league while her 8.0 rebounds per game ranks sixth.
  • UMass is in the middle of the conference as its 63-percent field goal clip ranks eighth.
ALL-TIME AGAINST UMASS
  • Loyola leads its all-time series with UMass, 2-1.
  • Massachusetts win the first-ever meeting on Feb. 7, 2023, at Gentile Arena. However, Loyola swept UMass last season to gain control of the series.
  • In the most recent meeting on Feb. 21, 2024, Sitori Tanin scored 18 points, leading Loyola's offensive onslaught. Ali Berg and Sam Galanopoulos also scored in double-figures as Loyola picked up its 13th win of the season.
  • The 64-52 win marked Loyola's first-ever season sweep of an Atlantic 10 foe.
LAST TIME OUT
  • Naelle Bernard erupted for a career-high 25 points against her former team, Duquesne, while Loyola Chicago poured in 41 fourth-quarter points. However, a sluggish third quarter and 23 turnovers proved costly, as the Ramblers fell, 75-70, on Saturday afternoon at Gentile Arena.
