Loyola Chicago Heads to VCU Wednesday for Final Regular Season Road Game

Tip-off set for 5 p.m. CT on ESPN+

CHICAGO - The Loyola University Chicago Women's basketball team plays its penultimate regular season game this Wednesday (Feb. 26) at VCU. Tip-off from the Siegel Center is slated for 5 p.m. CT with the game streaming live on ESPN+.

QUICK HITS
  • LUC heads to VCU this Wednesday, meeting the Rams for the away end of the home-and-home series.
  • Loyola has four home-and-home Atlantic 10 opponents this season: Saint Louis, Dayton, George Washington, and VCU.
  • The Ramblers aim to build momentum heading into the 2024-25 Atlantic 10 Championship in Henrico, Va.
  • If the season ended today, No. 13 Loyola would face No. 12 George Washington in the first game of the tournament on Wednesday, March 5.
  • The Maroon and Gold have yet to sweep an A-10 foe this season. They'll have the chance to do so in the regular season finale vs. Saint Louis.
  • Against the Billikens, Loyola will celebrate and honor its class of five departing seniors: Thoranna Kika Hodge-Carr, Sitori Tanin, Naelle Bernard, Jess Finney and Destiny Jackson.
  • Finney hopes to have the same success against the Rams as she did in the first meeting on Jan. 8, 2025. The graduate student lit up the floor for 17 points and a season-high seven made field goals.
  • Emma Theodorsson also found success against the Rams, scoring 15 points and gathering a team-high seven rebounds.
  • The Ramblers are one of the better teams in the league when shooting the deep ball. The team ranks sixth in made threes with 6.7 per game.
  • Bernard leads the team and ranks 11th in the A-10 in three-point percentage with a .394 clip.
  • Her 2.0 made threes per game also ranks 11th in the conference.
RAMBLER BITES
  • Five letterwinners return to the roster, including two starters. The Ramblers welcome 10 newcomers, including six freshman and four transfers.
  • Head coach Allison Guth is in her third season at the helm of Loyola. 2024-25 is her ninth year as a head coach after spending the first six seasons at Yale.
  • Loyola Chicago's nine-win improvement from 2022-23 to 2023-24 was the second best turnaround in the Atlantic 10.
  • The Ramblers named returners Sitori Tanin, Thoranna Kika Hodge-Carr, and Kira Chivers team captains for the 2024-25 season.
  • A trio of 2023-24 Ramblers inked professional contracts overseas this past summer: Emma Nolan (Bad Homburg, Germany), Sophia Nolan (Dillingen Diamonds, Germany), and Sam Galanopoulos (Esperides Kallitheas, Greece). There are now seven former Ramblers who have played pro basketball.
SCOUTING THE VCU RAMS
  • Head Coach Beth O'Boyle is in the 17th season of her career and carries a 276-233 (.542) record. She's 183-150 (.550) in 11 seasons at VCU.
  • The Rams are 12-16 overall and 6-10 in the league. The team would be the No. 10 seed in the A-10 Championship if the season ended today.
  • VCU is stout on the defensive end of the court, ranking 29th in the nation in field goal percentage defense (36.8) and T-34th in scoring defense (56.7).
  • VCU is led by Mary-Anna Asare's 15.8 points per game. She ranks seventh in the A-10's scoring leaders.
  • Mykel Parham leads VCU on the glass with 10.4 rebounds per game.
  • Most recently, VCU lost, 68-55, vs. Richmond at home, ending a two-game win streak.
ALL-TIME AGAINST VCU
  • Loyola trails in its all-time series with VCU, 0-3.
  • Most recently, Loyola fell, 62-44, to VCU at home on Jan. 8, 2024.
  • Finney and Theodorsson led Loyola in double figures.
  • VCU pulled out a 52-36 win over VCU last season on Jan. 13, 2024, at Gentile Arena.
  • The Ramblers' bench produced 24 points while VCU's scored 14.
  • Coming off the bench, Kira Chivers scored a team-high eight points while adding two assists and one steal.
  • The Rams' 52 points were the second-least the team procured during the 2023-24 season.
  • This season marks the first home-and-home series between the two squads.
LAST TIME OUT
Emma Theodorsson recorded her highest point total in the last eight games, leading Loyola Chicago with 16 points in Wednesday's road matchup against Massachusetts. However, the Ramblers couldn't slow down UMass' offense and fell 87-62 at the Mullins Center.
