Ramblers Falter on Day Two in Iowa

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – On day two of the UNI Dome Tournament, Loyola Chicago (1-2, 0-0 A-10) fell, 12-4, to Omaha then stumbled against Northern Iowa, 6-2, on Saturday, Feb. 8.  

Game One: Loyola 4, Omaha 12 
Loyola got off to a fast start, plating three runs in the first inning. Senior Haley Wallace stole home to open scoring then Riley Owens, another senior, hit a single before sophomore Liz Sedakis crossed home plate for the Ramblers' second run. With sophomore Katie Mitchell at bat, she bunted for first base and Owens scored again. Omaha added two runs to close out the first inning.  

In the top of the second, rookie Averi Vander Woude scored the fourth and final run for Loyola after Sedakis singled down the right field line. The Mavericks scored another run in the bottom of the second. After a scoreless third inning, Omaha put up one run in the fourth before a late surge in the sixth that saw the Mavericks score eight runs to clinch the game.  

Inside Box Score 
  • Starting pitcher Andie Broniewicz tossed four innings and struck out two batters.  
  • Four Ramblers stole bases: Wallace, Sedakis, Vander Woude and Skyler Croker.  
  • Loyola finished with eight hits, three RBIs and zero errors.  
Game Two: Loyola 2, Northern Iowa 6 
The Ramblers came up short against the Panthers in their fourth game of the tournament. Loyola struck first with a run in the third inning from Vander Woude after Owens hit a double, Northern Iowa responded with a four-run rally in the bottom half. Freshman Kayci Rigby recorded her first career run in the top of the sixth before UNI sealed the win with two more in the bottom of the frame.  

Inside the Box Score 
  • Starting pitcher Peyton Pepkowski recorded six strikeouts through six innings for a season high.  
  • Owens and Bella Crimaldi had multi-hit games with two apiece.  
  • Two freshmen, Vander Woude and Rigby, accounted for Loyola's runs against UNI.
