LITCHFIELD PARK, Ariz. – The Ramblers placed ninth at the Bell Bank "Pay It Forward" Collegiate after wrapping up three rounds Tuesday afternoon. Loyola Chicago men's golf finished eight-over-par with a score of 872 (294-289-289).
"Honestly felt pretty good about this week," said head coach
Erik Hoops. "I feel we're trending in the right direction, and it was a very tightly packed board. Probably the strongest field we'll see all year. The mistakes we're making were much less than in North Carolina and guys are playing a little more consistently without the colorful scorecards- that's what we did so well in the fall."
Zach Mulhearn led the Ramblers, tying for 17
th. He scored 214 (75-70-69), finishing under-par in both the second and third rounds. Mulhearn's round-three score of 69 ties his season low and was the only round under 70 by a Rambler this week.
Mulhearn led Loyola and tied fourth in the event with 14 birdies.
Charlie Kulwin was on his heels with a score of 215 (70-72-73). He tied for 20
th on the leaderboards. This marks the second straight top-25 finish for Kulwin this spring.
Tied for 39
th,
Ryan Walsh scored 220 (74-72-74).
Sebastian Kasun came in three strokes behind in 55
th place. He totaled 223 (75-75-73) on the course.
Wrapping up team play was
Jackson Overton who made his season debut in 73
rd place. He posted a score of 229 (75-77-77).
Loyola has two more regular season competitions before gearing up for the Atlantic 10 Championships.
"Butler and Wright State are good opportunities to bring home trophies and get us into that winning mindset," continued Hoops. "That, combined with courses opening up around home, will have us ready for Evermore next month. We're ready for that run."
The Ramblers return to the course March 31 and April 1 at the Don Benbow Butler Invitational in Indianapolis.
