Ramblers Face Bonnies on the Road

LEADING OFF
The Loyola Chicago (9-24, 4-4 A-10) Ramblers travel to St. Bonaventure, N.Y. to take on the Bonnies in an Atlantic 10 series with the opening doubleheader on Saturday, April 5 at 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. CT and the closer on Sunday, April 6 at 11 a.m. CT.

QUICK HITS
  • Senior pitcher Peyton Pepkowski was named the A-10 Pitcher of the Week on Monday, March 31 for the first time this season and sixth overall in her career. She pitched a complete shutout game against crosstown rival DePaul on March 25, allowing just four hits and retiring seven batters to snap more than a decade long drought in the series between the two programs.
  • The winning streak for Pepkowski (4-16) continued as she clinched the series sweep in the opening and closing wins over A-10 opponent Rhode Island. The 2024 A-10 Pitcher of the Year combined for nine K's, eight hits and three runs through 12 total innings.
  • In the series closer against Rhode Island (March 30), rookie Alli Pawlowicz launched a grand slam to secure the run-rule victory over the Rams and collect her third homer of the season and of her career.
  • The Ramblers are currently on a five-game winning streak dating back to their first conference victory over Saint Joseph's on March 23.
  • Junior outfielder Sierra Sass leads the team at the plate with a .400 BA and in on-base percentage with a .464 average, respectively ranking her fourth and eighth conference.
  • Pepkowski recorded her 600th career strikeout on March 22 against Saint Joseph's, becoming just the second Rambler in program history to do so. She has 79 strikeouts on the year so far, good for second in the league.
  • Head coach Alicia Abbott clinched her 100th career win in the Maroon and Gold after Loyola defeated St. John's, 2-1, on Feb. 14 in walk-off fashion.
SCOUTING REPORT
St. Bonaventure is currently 4-24 overall and 0-9 in A-10 play. The Bonnies are currently on a 16-game losing streak, seeing their last victory come in a 14-6 rout over Mercyhurst on March 8. In league play, St. Bonaventure has been swept by George Washington, George Mason and Fordham.

Senior utility Karena Recrosio leads the team in batting average with a .367 percentage, good for sixth in the league, and is third in on-base percentage (.420). Inside the circle, Mackenzie Frani leads with 36 strikeouts and one shutout through 53 innings pitched.

SERIES HISTORY
The Ramblers lead the all-time series with the Bonnies, 7-1, with the first meeting ever taking place in 2009 and resulting in an 8-0 shutout for Loyola. The two programs met 11 years later in 2020 for the last time as non-conference opponents. Loyola took its first and only loss against St. Bonaventure in the 2023 series opener in New York and since then the Ramblers have only allowed the Bonnies three runs in the last five meetings.
