ORLANDO – Loyola Chicago men's golf placed fifth out of 12 teams at the 2024-25 Atlantic 10 Championships Thursday afternoon. The Ramblers improved two spots on the team leaderboards after the first round of action and scored +11 (298-286-291/875) after the three rounds.
"I'm proud of how this group fought this week. It's a testament to their sheer will power that we refuse to believe we are out of a tournament until the final putt drops," said head coach
Erik Hoops. "We started a little slow but played as good as anyone last 45 holes of that golf tournament. I like the direction our program is headed."
Four Ramblers placed in the top-25, including two in the top-20.
"I think it's fitting we had another week with four guys in the top-25. It's something we've done all year," continued Hoops. "Those juniors did a great job of leading us this year. Looking forward to wrapping up their careers here with a bang next season."
Ryan Walsh and
Charlie Kulwin tied for 17
th, while
Zach Mulhearn and
Dori Lee tied for 22
nd.
Walsh and Kulwin totaled 218 over the three rounds. Walsh posted a first-round score of 76 before going one-under-par in both the second and third rounds (71). Kulwin stayed steady with back-to-back rounds of 73 before finishing on-par in round three (72).
"I want to give a special shout-out to Charlie. He was the last player we brought in for that class, had no other DI offers, and I really felt he should have earned an All-Conference award for his performance this season. The kid has earned every accolade he will achieve in his career," added Hoops.
Mulhearn and Lee were just two strokes behind with scores of 220. Mulhearn led Loyola through the first two rounds and finished at 73-72-75. Lee scored 77 in the first round and rallied with a two-under score in round two (70) and capped the third round at 73.
Loyola's performance was concluded by
Sebastian Kasun who tied for 39
th. He scored 228 (76-77-75) over the three rounds.
"What a year, we had a win, a bunch of top-five finishes, and a solid showing here in Orlando. Golf is way more fun when you're in contention week in and week out. We're going to continue that and take it even further next year. Better schedule coming next year against some top-level talent. We'll be ready in a year to bring home more awards," concluded Hoops.
