Ramblers Drop Doubleheader to Billikens

SAINT LOUIS, Mo. – Loyola Chicago (12-26, 7-7 A-10) battled in both ends of a doubleheader against Saint Louis in an Atlantic 10 clash on Wednesday, April 9 at Billikens Sports Center where the Ramblers came up short in both contests, falling 7-3 in the opener and 2-1 in extra innings in game two.  

Game One: Loyola 3, Saint Louis 7 
Saint Louis jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning and never looked back in the early game. Despite outhitting the Billikens 12-6, the Ramblers let up multiple defensive miscues, committing four errors that led to five unearned runs.  

Loyola clawed back with a three-run fifth inning highlighted by RBI hits from Bella Crimaldi, Skyler Croker and rookie Alli Pawlowicz, but Saint Louis responded with three more runs in the bottom half to put the game away. 

Peyton Pepkowski (6-17) allowed just two earned runs while striking out seven through six innings. Senior Riley Owens and sophomore Croker paced the Ramblers' offense with three hits each.  

Inside the Box Score 

  • It was Loyola's third game this season with 12 hits and eighth overall with double-digit hitting.  
  • Owens and Croker marked season-highs with their three hits apiece, and it was a career-high for the sophomore.  
  • Haley Wallace and Crimaldi each recorded a double.  

Game Two: Loyola 1, Saint Louis 2 
In a tightly contested late afternoon game, Saint Louis walked it off in the eighth inning to sweep the series. With the score tied 1-1 after seven, Loyola pulled ahead in the top of the eighth on a clutch RBI single from Nat Lesnicki that scored Owens.  

In the bottom of the eighth, Saint Louis staged a rally. A hit-by-pitch and a walk put two Billikens on base then freshman Scout Gallagher delivered a two-run single to complete the comeback.   

Andie Broniewicz (6-7) pitched a strong game for the Ramblers, going the distance and allowing just five hits while retiring four. 

Inside the Box Score 

  • Loyola's offense totaled eight hits.  
  • Sierra Sass and Lesnicki went 2-for-4 at bat.  
  • Hickey recorded a double and her 18th RBI of the season.

The Ramblers head home to host Dayton in another A-10 series on Saturday, April 12 at 12 and 2 p.m., and on Sunday, April 13 at 12 p.m. Sunday's closer is Loyola's alumni game.
