CHICAGO, Ill. - Josie Halbleib put up a triple-double with 10 kills, 16 digs, and 33 assists in Loyola Chicago's five-set loss at UIC Saturday night.
Loyola falls to 3-8 on the season.
Leyna Nguyen added a double-double with 12 kills and 10 digs. Kaitlyn Burke also added 13 kills to help the attack. On the defensive end, Sam Falk chipped in for with 16 digs to go with six blocks from Avary DeBlieck.
"I thought Josie had a nice match and was proud of her for improving her dig total," said head coach Amanda Berkley. "I am proud of the team for rebounding after a tough first set, but credit to UIC for finishing in the fifth set and serving tough."
How It Happened
SET 1 | The Ramblers found themselves in an early hole, dropping a tough first set 25-15. Loyola trailed by as many as 10 points as UIC grabbed the advantage for good at 5-4 in a set that was tied up three times before the Flames took control.
SET 2 | Loyola responded to pick up a 25-22 victory in the second set, evening the match at one set apiece. The Ramblers persevered in a back-and-forth set to win in a stanza that featured three lead changes and was tied seven times. Neither team led by more than four points along the way. The Ramblers racked up 17 kills over the course of the set. The Loyola offense also got a boost from three aces in the stanza.
SET 3 | Loyola Chicago set three, putting the Ramblers in a 2-1 hole. The Ramblers came up short in a back-and-forth battle, losing 25-23 in a set that featured four lead changes and was tied 15 times. Neither team had a lead of more than four points along the way.
SET 4 | Loyola then responded to win the fourth set 29-27 to force a fifth set. The Ramblers grabbed control of the set at 2-1 and never looked back. Loyola led by four points at 10-6 before finishing off the stanza, totaling 16 kills in the set.
SET 5 | Loyola came up short in a back-and-forth match, winning the second and fourth sets, but dropping the first, third and fifth, which they dropped by the score of 15-7, to fall in the match. The Ramblers trailed by as many as eight points before dropping the fifth set.
